More than 90% of UK telephone exchanges have already been ADSL enabled. BT's programme to roll out ADSL to more exchanges- coupled with the recent removal of distance related limits for the most popular broadband services - means that 99.4 per cent of UK homes and businesses should be able to get at least the 512kb/sec ADSL service (ie, Single 500, Share 500 or Network 500) by August 2005.
You should have the full choice of our broadband products if the length of the line between your premises and the exchange does not exceed 3.5 km (subject to line survey). Premises with lines longer than this may not necessarily be able to support higher speed products. More information on how ADSL works over long distances.
Subject to line tests, you can get broadband
(ADSL) if you have:
- a standard BT telephone line (PSTN).
- an ISDN line, and are ordering an engineer-installed product. All you pay is a conversion charge and we manage the conversion of the ISDN (Home Highway or Business Highway) to ADSL. Should the conversion fail for technical reasons, the line is converted back to the original service for no charge.
- Installed RedCare and RedCare GSM connections on a PSTN line since 31st July 2003 are ADSL broadband compatible.
- Those FeatureLine products terminating at NTE sockets are able to receive broadband.
- Embark customers with Centrex/FeatureLine lines that are delivered using the same technology as a PSTN line and that terminate on a standard NTE socket will be compatible with broadband.
Broadband (ADSL) is not compatible with
- ISDN 30
- Red ABC alarm services
- RedCare installed before 31st July 2003 will continue to report incompatible.
- Caller Display CD50 (no known problems with other caller display types)
- private circuits (analogue, KiloStream, MegaSteam)
- PBX lines, PBXs (digital switchboards)
- auxiliary lines - one line serving multiple phones
- PDQ equipment (credit card swipe machines)
- some new generation faxes may not work as they use some of the same bandwidth frequency as ADSL, making the fax and the ADSL line incompatible with one another. We recommend that you check with your fax manufacturer/supplier before purchasing broadband.
- Hunt group (Auxiliary) lines are incompatible.
- FeatureLine lines that terminate on a PBX will also be incompatible with broadband.
- Embark Centrex/FeatureLine lines which terminate on a PBX will also be incompatible with broadband. The digital sites will be connected to a PBX and are therefore not compatible.
- All members of the FeatureNet family of products are incompatible with broadband.

The anti-virus tool removes known viruses from your email content and any attachments before the email arrives in your BT Connect mailbox.)
- For added protection, we strongly recommend that you also take the BT Business Internet Security Pack. The Internet Security Pack anti-virus protection will help protect you from any non-BT Connect email distributed viruses, such as a virus from any internet download you may undertake, or any programme loaded through your CD drive or 'A:' drive, or any non BT Connect email account. It also provides protection in the form of a firewall. A firewall protects you from on-line burglars or "hackers" that may try to steal your commercial business information or customer information from you.
